Actress Yoon Jung-hee, the heroine of “Poetry,” may have missed out on the much coveted bets actress award at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival, but the veteran’s return to the big screen has rejuvenated her passion for acting.

Despite the film’s only honor going to writer-director Lee Chang-dong for his work on the screenplay, Yoon said she was content with the response and praise she had been showered with at the world’s most glamorous and prestigious film festival.

Lee's 'Poetry' wins Cannes screenplay prize

Asian entries at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival took home some of the top honors on Sunday at what many consider the most prestigious international film competition in the world.

Korean writer-director Lee Chang-dong was awarded with screenplay honors for “Poetry,” his lyrical ode to self-discovery, while Thai entry “Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives” was given the Palme d’Or -- the festival’s top prize.

“Poetry” just might turn out to be novelist-turned-filmmaker Lee Chang-dong’s swan song to an aging Korean silver screen icon.

After a 15-year hiatus from the local movie scene, Yoon Jung-hee, star of more than 300 films throughout her career in the ’60s and early ’70s, is back.
