[Exclusive] JYPE admits Wonder Girls lack insurance

The head of JYP Entertainment Jung Wook on Wednesday confirmed allegations by its former employee that their client the Wonder Girls had not been covered by health insurance since January and their $2,500 citation from the NYC Department of Buildings is in default status.


He also revealed the group had been on student visas when they first arrived in the U.S. last April .

Wonder Girls ill-treated: ex-tutor

A former English tutor for popular K-pop group Wonder Girls on Tuesday painted a grim and detailed account of the group’s management company JYPE’s “ill-conceived” handling of the band’s venture into the North American market.

Daniel Gauss, who was the group’s New York-based English tutor from October 2009 until this month, said over a series of e-mails to The Korea Herald that the girls had been mismanaged and mistreated by local music mogul Park Jin-young’s entertainment company.

More than 20 big name K-pop groups and singers are set to perform at a large-scale joint concert next month.

The star-studded line up for the 16th Dream Concert includes: Rain, Lee Hyori, the Wonder Girls, Girls’ Generation, SS501, Super Junior, 2PM, Shinee, Kara, U-Kiss, After School, Four Minutes, Tiara, Davichi, MBLAQ, Beast, f(x), Rainbow and F.cuz.

Wonder Grils to take second crack at U.S. market

One of Korea’s top girl bands, the Wonder Girls, is set to drop their latest album worldwide in May before they embark on a U.S. tour, JYP Entertainment said Monday.

Their second studio album will hit store shelves on May 15 with its first single and music video released in Korean, English and Chinese, JYPE told The Korea Herald.

Wonder Girls to replace group member

Korean female pop group Wonder Girls has a new lineup after one of its members decided to quit to return to school, its agent JYP Entertainment said Saturday, according to Yonhap News.

 

Sun Mi, 18, who dropped out of high school to take part in the five-member group's U.S. debut last year, will return to Korea in March to focus on preparations for entering university, the agent said. Hye Rim, who is the same age, will replace her.
