Korea seeks to nourish medical tourism services

The nation’s medical tourism industry is set to undergo key improvements in its service sector starting with food.

The Korea Tourism Organization President Lee Charm announced at a briefing Tuesday in Seoul that a manual providing key information on culture, customs, and food recipes from the Middle East, Mongolia, Russia and Southeast Asia will be distributed to hospitals and medical food service providers throughout the country.

To be a stand-up comedian in the Middle East where so many topics are off-limits must be hard work.

To be a comic of Korean and Vietnamese roots must be even more difficult.

Growing up being the only guy that looks different from everyone else must have been hard. Forget all of the trials and tribulations that an Asian kid might be subjected to in the United States, try being one in the Middle East -- a region that has always been finnicky about the unknown.

KTO signs deal with Michelin

An MOU between the nation’s tourism authority and Michelin was signed yesterday, sealing the deal to publish the Korean edition of the French tiremaker’s travel guides next year.

Korea Tourism Organization President Lee Charm presided over the signing with chief of Michelin Japan Bernard Delmas at the KTO headquarters in central Seoul on Tuesday.

Korea may get Michelin Guide travel edition

Talks are underway between government officials and Michelin to publish the first local edition of the famous Red and Green guides.

 

According to sources at the Korea Tourism Organization and the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, negotiations for the Korean edition of the Green guide are moving accordingly though they say it may take longer for French tire makers to decide whether to publish a Red guide for Seoul.

Tourism board begins service for menu translation

Local restaurateurs and food vendors will now be able to create foreign language versions of their menus using a web-based service provided by the Korea Tourism Organization.

 

Vendors may visit www.visitkorea.or.kr to get started on updating their awkwardly translated menu items, such as "spawn soup," "an intestine of an ox," "cow head soup," and "gut of a pig."
