Tracks to the beach : Jeongdongjin to Naksan

Jagged rocks lined with razor wire, a trip down the coastline of Gangwon-do is bittersweet, revealing a stunning landscape with reminders of a country divided. Jeongdongjin adds kitsch to the mix.
After skiing at High 1 Resort and losing some won in Gangwon Land Resort & Casino, we headed to Jeongdongjin. The Jeongdongjin train station is atypical, a Guinness book of world records holder for train station closest to the sea, the only station in South Korea situated next to the ocean. Arrival is dramatic. The sensation, however, turns surreal after spotting the infamous landmark, a cruise-ship-turned-resort "beached" 60 meters above the sea on the edge of a cliff. "Why?" my girlfriend asked.
