Jeju meeting will search for environmental solutions

Almost a quarter of the world’s total disease burden is attributable to environmental risks -- and that is just as true in the Republic of Korea as it is anywhere else. Like its neighbors in the region and further afield, it is going to have to adapt quickly to a rapidly evolving situation.
Only a half a century ago, it was all much simpler. Environmental health issues mainly involved water, sanitation, hygiene, and smoke or air pollution in living environments. But over the years, urbanization and industrialization have introduced new challenges, some of them to do with chemicals and some with new technologies. Recently, climate and ecosystem changes have been added to this list.
