Thai film maker wins Asia Art Award

Apichatpong Weerasethakul, an internationally acclaimed filmmaker and video artist, yesterday won the first Asia Art Award in Seoul for “Phantoms of Nabua,” a short film which portrays a communication of lights, the comfort of home, and destruction.
“Weerasethakul’s win is meaningful and unprecedented. It took a long time for photography to step into the boundary of fine art, and I think now single channel video is slowly being acknowledged as one too,” said Kim So-hee, assistant curator at Asia Art Award.
