The message of Jeong Yak-yong (1762-1836), one of the leading philosophers in the late Joseon Dynasty, transcends time and cultural boundaries. His most famous work, “Admonitions on Governing the People” or “Mongmin simsseo,” which describes the fundamental principles a governor should observe, was published in English by the University of California Press earlier this month after 10 years of translation work by a Korean scholar.
