Housing market remains lackluster

The real estate market is showing no sign of a recovery one week after the mortgage controls were loosened and tax breaks were extended, adding to fears of a prolonged slump.
Buyers and sellers remain cautious and demand for mortgage loans at local banks has even decreased since the eased rules took effect on Sept. 2, according to banks and real estate agencies.
