Army chief Hwang quits over property purchase controversy

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Hwang Eui-don stepped down Tuesday amid suspicions that he made an inappropriate real-estate purchase in 2002, the Ministry of National Defense said.

 

Hwang submitted an application for his retirement to Cheong Wa Dae earlier in the day and President Lee Myung-bak accepted it, the ministry said.
